Immune-boosting Diet Strategies against Hepatitis

main

One of the ways in which you can get infected with hepatitis is food contamination. Because of this, necessary precautions, like following proper hygiene and sanitation, is needed to avoid getting infected.

Your liver is the number one victim of hepatitis. You need to take care of your liver to enable it to perform its several functions. Everything that you ingest passes through the liver. It serves as a filtering tool, protecting the body from harmful substances. Aside from being a filter, it produces nutrients needed by the body. Therefore, it is important that your diet contains nutrients that are healthy for your liver.

A generally healthy diet consists of:

  • 60-70% carbohydrates (pasta, whole-grain breads)
  • 20-30% protein
  • 10-20% polyunsaturated fats
  • 8 to 12 glasses of water per day
  • daily does of vitamin A, vitamin B3, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, calcium and iron (but not in excess)
  • no alcohol
  • fruits and green leafy vegetables

Of course, aside from having a list of what should be included in your diet, there are also food and supplements that you should be wary of to prevent getting hepatitis. This includes:

  • raw shellfish (this is one of the most common source of hepatitis, especially if its from contaminated water)
  • wild mushrooms
  • shark cartilage
  • aflatoxin
  • saccharin
  • excessive intake of alcohol

These foods pose a higher risk of you getting the disease. If you already have liver disease, these foods can make your liver situation worse.

Most people with hepatitis generally need to maintain a healthy diet similar to that of an uninfected person. It is also best to maintain a healthy weight to avoid the buildup of fat in the liver. A balanced diet can lead to better liver functioning and can help the immune system fight diseases.

Here are a few more diet strategies to fight off hepatitis:

  • Avoid eating foods that kill and instead, eat foods that heal. Foods that kill include aspartame, MSG, food additives, and carcinogens. Foods that heal include vegetable juices, organic foods, enzymes and olive oil.
  • Make time for a cleansing program. The order is as follows: bowel cleansing, dental cleanup, kidney cleansing, and liver cleansing.
  • Exercise regularly.

These are only some of the diet and health strategies that you can follow. Keep in mind that a bad diet can lead not only to your liver but to other parts of your body as well.
